Rescue Squads Technical Rescue Team and NCFD responded to assist EMS with the removal of a large patient on the second floor of an apartment building.  The lady weighted 450 lbs (+/-). The stair to the building would not accommodate a stretcher or stokes without causing injury to responders.  Rescue 8 was used to lower her and the stokes basket onto a stretcher on the ground.  SCE&G also responded to secure power to overhead lines. Rescue Squads and NCFD responded to assist EMS with the removal of a very large patient from a manufactured home off Hayne Street.  The lady weighted 800 lbs (+/-).   A cargo net and Rescue 8 were used to remove her.  Two local residents who repaired manufactured homes volunteered to assist in the removal a section of wall, which enlarged the back door to the home.  They then reassemble the wall following remove of the patients restoring the home to a useable condition. Rescue responded to assist EMS in removing a power pole off Medic 12.  Once the load was put on the crane, Deputy Chief Mercer and Ricky Meitzler used the TNT Cutter to cut the pipe impaled through the medic units box.

The medic unit was then driven out from under the pole and guide wires.

Thought  the unit was taken out of service for repairs, damage was minimal... like the VARB cares!    (05-12-02)
