Summerville Woman Seriously
Hurt in Wreck
Staff Report Post & Courier - 7-23-2003
A Summerville woman was seriously injured in a two-vehicle collision Tuesday afternoon when her car crossed into oncoming traffic, Charleston County Sheriff's officials said.
Rebecca Ann Farmer-Hill was driving a 1997 Ford Thunderbird on Bees Ferry Road toward U.S. Highway 17 at about 3:45 p.m. when her car veered into oncoming traffic, Charleston County Sheriff's spokeswoman Capt. Dana Valentine said. Her vehicle struck a Coastal Glass Distributors truck driven by Harmon Nixon, Valentine said.
Nixon tried to avoid Farmer-Hill, but was unsuccessful, Valentine said. Farmer-Hill had to be cut out of her vehicle by the St. Andrews Fire Department and evacuated to the Medical University of South Carolina, Valentine said. Although her injuries are not life-threatening, she suffered multiple broken bones and lacerations, according to Valentine. Nixon was treated at Trident Medical Center for minor injuries and released, Valentine said.
Farmer-Hill has been charged with a second offense of driving with a suspended license, driving left of center in the road and for having 10 unpaid traffic citations, Valentine said. Nixon has not been charged, Valentine said.

After receiving the call at 15:47, St. Andrews FD arrived on-scene within minutes and notified dispatcher of one Category 1 Pt. that was severely entrapped and requested help from Charleston FD, EMS and Rescue. Rescue units arrived within 10 minutes and the responders on-scene had the woman freed in less than twenty minutes and being wheel to the LZ where she was flown to MUSC Trauma Center, she was in the air at 16:25. This was due to the use of three spreaders, four cutters and two combine tools all working together to disassemble the car and roll the dash.
